The first 18 weeks in a dog's life are the most important and a critical time for a dog owner to get things right so that they can enjoy a long life with their new pet. Mutleys puppy classes are small, friendly classes where owners can learn how to teach their dog the basics in training as well as early socialisation with other puppies and adults/children.

What will your puppy learn?

  • Sit, down, stand.
  • Short stay - useful for safety when out walking/crossing the road and getting out of the car.
  • Recall - We will look at how to safely let your puppy off the lead for free exercise and ensuring you can get your dog to return to you.
  • Leave it - with food.
  • Safe play - teaching the dog to give the toy back to the owner.
  • Lead walking - advice on how to conquer a dog that pulls on the lead as well as one that might not want to move!
  • Handling and grooming exercise.
  • Socialisation exercises (with children, older dogs, adults).

Advice given on:

  • House training
  • Socialisation
  • Chewing & play biting
  • Crate Training
  • Diet
  • Prevention of Separation problems
  • Advice on any other puppy problems being experienced

Classes start regularly throughout the year and it's important to book early. We recommend phoning when pups are 8 weeks old to book a space. Pups must be under 18 weeks old at the start of the course and have had their vaccinations.

You are welcome to bring additional handlers to class, including children who would like to be part of the training.

How to book

Please contact us by phone or email to reserve a space on a course - we will need to know your name, address, contact number and email address as well as your dog's name, breed and age. We will then ask you to send payment by either cheque or bank transfer to secure your booking - we are able to hold spaces for up to a week pending payment.

Once we have received your payment, we will send you a confirmation pack via email - this includes your booking confirmation, directions to the class venue and a full set of supporting handouts for your course. These are useful to look through prior to starting classes as 'the earlier the better' is a true saying with puppies.

Small classes, a friendly atmosphere and lots of reward-based hard work have made this a weekly experience my baby pug Eddie and I look forward to. Highly recommended.
