Puppy’s First Walk

The recall is one of the most common problems that people have with their dog and the younger you can start work on this the more effective your training techniques will be. Most puppies will not stray far at 11/12 weeks old and owners feel they have got a good recall but beware - as your pup gets older it will get braver and go further!

The first few walks are the most important time for installing a good recall in your dog and not loosing it as it grows older.

A trainer will come out with you to work with your dog in the park either off lead or on a long line (dog needs to be under 18 weeks for this service) and show you how to get an effective recall before your pup gets older and bolder and starts to go further.

Some people lack the confidence in letting their pup have some freedom in the park, so having a trainer there with you to build your confidence and show you what you need to do can help, even if its ensuring you are using the long training line correctly. It is important that puppies are given some freedom (off lead/long line) as early as possible to enable you to work on obtaining a good return command.
